Congratulations, You're Pregnant | Kim Hongjoong
-> Pairing: Kim Hongjoong x Wife!Reader
-> Request: No
-> Synopsis: Y/N finds out why she's been sick the past two weeks.
-> Warnings: Pregnancy, mentions of throwing up, fatigue, medical talk. This is terrible and didn't turn out how I expected it to.
-> Word Count: 656
-> Requests: Open.

Waking up from her slumber, Y/N turns onto her back and gazes up at her husband through sleepy eyes.
He smiles down at her, “Hi, sleepyhead.”
“I’m sorry I fell asleep on you,” she pouts as she starts to feel guilty for falling asleep not even ten minutes into the movie. Now the two-hour movie is almost finished, and she couldn’t tell you how it went or even remembered how it started.
“It makes up for all the times I’ve fallen asleep on you during movie night,” he assures her and looks at her with concern. “Are you still not feeling too good?”
She nods and sits up as a wave of nausea washes over her. “I don’t know what’s going. I thought it might be the stomach flu but it’s coming up two weeks and it’s not easing off at all. The nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and fatigue. I just want it to end.”
“I think it's time to see a doctor,” he suggests, turning off the TV and getting up from the couch.
“I can schedule an appointment for tomorrow. It's not urgent,” she says.
“It's urgent for me. My wife has been sick for two weeks, and I want to find out what's causing it,” he says, heading to the door to put on his shoes and coat.
Without protest, she lets him help her with her shoes and jacket before they leave the house.
Four long hours have passed slowly, making it feel like they’ve been sitting there for an eternity. Y/N's arm is connected to a fluid drip to replenish her hydration while they anxiously await the results of the blood tests.
Y/N's frustration is reaching its peak as she sits on the hospital bed, ready to throttle the next person who enters. She is becoming more agitated by the minute from all the constant beeping of the machines, people muttering to each other and the smell, that hospital grade disinfectant smell. She swears it’s ten times worse than it usually is and she knows the smell well. Her mother’s been a nurse since before Y/N was born. She’d often bring the smell home with her.
Finally, the doctor re-enters the cubicle with a surprising announcement. "Congratulations," he says, breaking the silence. "You're pregnant."
The young couple is left speechless, completely taken aback. They haven’t been trying for a baby, both agreeing to wait until next year after all the tour stuff is over.
Now, faced with this unexpected news, their plans are thrown into disarray. Y/N's frustration quickly transforms into a whirlwind of emotions - shock, fear, and a hint of excitement.
The doctor continues, explaining the next steps and offering support. Y/N's mind races, not hearing anything the doctor is saying as she looks at Hongjoong, searching for some kind of reassurance.
Hongjoong, sensing Y/N's shift in emotions, reaches out and takes her hand. They exchange a knowing look, silently acknowledging that their lives are about to change in the best way possible.
"I’m sorry, could you please repeat all that?" Hongjoong politely asks the doctor, letting Y/N know that she wasn't the only one who missed what was said.
As soon as Hongjoong and Y/N step foot in their apartment, Hongjoong pulls Y/N into his arms, and buries his face into her neck, as he repeats "I love you," over and over again.
She wraps her arms around him, holding him tightly, feeling his tears wet her skin. Feeling her own tears build up, she becomes overwhelmed
As the news of the unexpected pregnancy continues to sink in, the feelings from earlier, the shock, the fear and the little tinge of excitement, intensifies. Especially the fear and excitement.
In less than 8 months, their small family of two will become a family of three.

I cannot figure out if there is a new bot problem on AO3 or not.
I got a guest review on one of my Sanctuary stories. One of the less read ones that I posted in November.
Now, this story is a plotless fluff piece that's 656 words long.
The guest wrote 'This is lovely! I couldn't believe it when it was over!'
To me, that second part doesn't make sense to the content, but maybe I'm just misreading.
But the guest name was the same name as a writer in the fandom. Which just struck me as strange. So now I'm suspicious, because why not log into your account if you're going to use your name anyway?
I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into it. But it seems fishy to me. Like maybe a bot has evolved to copy usernames or something when leaving fake comments.
Opinions are welcome.

there was a series of errors, a few i noticed: South Africa and Rodesia supported Portugal, they started supporting UNITA only after the portuguese left in 1975. And Portugal wasn't actually struggling in Angola since the independence movements were more focused in attacking each other than the portuguese.

The only thing I think is "wrong" in this video is the fact that it doesn't mention the 1961 massacre by Congolese UPA members in Northern Angola, both Africans and Europeans were massacred with no distinction, that kicked off the colonial war. That aside , great video.

Two notable things that are not mentioned in the video. 1: At the time, Portugal had conscription in place. Creating a similar generation to the Vietnam generation in the U.S. 2: For a long time, Portugal had referred to its overseas territories internally as provinces. Despite the reality of the situation, Portugal used this as justification, that these colonies were actually part of Portugal proper. And as such decolonisation didn’t apply to them.

My grandfather fought in this war, won a praise for saving a colleague under fire and was a cooker in the army. One day he recooked caldo verde (portuguese soup) as there were no more ingredients for soup he had to scrape the soldiers bowls to make more caldo verde. The best part was that the officers said it was good. He told that the rebels ("turras") were so dark in skin that they attacked from the trees and were difficult to see. After the war he dedicated to making chocolate and helped people. With the money he saved with military service he bought the house I still live today. Had he died in that war I wouldn't be here. He did not like war but was conscripted to Angola. He's an example I want to follow and make proud. As a portuguese, I'm sorry for the atrocities commited, nobody wins with war.

You should make a video about the "Central American Crisis" in the 1970s and 1980s. It was one of the main battle grounds in the latter half of the Cold War, with civil wars in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

The Portuguese Colonial War in Africa lasted from 1961 until the final overthrow of the Estado Novo regime in 1974. The Carnation Revolution of April 1974 in Lisbon led to the hasty decolonization of Portuguese Africa and to the 1975 annexation of Portuguese Timor by Indonesia.

Things our European friends usually don't think when thinking about Portugal: - A lot of our population ("white" portuguese) with more then 50 years (so like, your boss at work, your father's friend, not "old people") were born in African or Asian countries when they were part of the Empire. I had a school colleague born in Macau. - A lot of our 65+ population has PTSD from the colonial wars... if you are around 20-25... those are our "fathers/uncles" generations, not our "grandfathers" generations. - When Portugal thinks of itself, it doesn't really see itself culturally or historically has an European country. Yes, we feel and are European, but our history happened outside of Europe, our international relations are still very much divided between EU, NATO and CPLP (Lusophone countries). The contrast can be "jokingly" seen in these factoids: The Portuguese language is the 17th most spoken language in Europe, between Czech and Catalan... at the same time, Portuguese is the most spoken language in the World's Southern Hemisphere.

One thing should have been said, but it was not: yes, the Estado Novo denied political rights to the Portuguese African colonies — but the white population of Portugal was also denied the same political rights. Portugal was, let's not forget, a dictatorship.

Fantastic video! Just a small note, as a Portuguese I think you missed some details about the conflicts, for example you forgot to mention the duration of the conflict (13 years!), the huge amount of Portuguese people that fought directly or indirectly in the war over that period (more than 1 million, for a country with 6/7 million people at the time), the economical costs of the conflict for the Portuguese state and the consequences of the independence treaties that displaced more than a million Portuguese people from the colonies. I'd like to add another thing, today is very common for young people in their 20s/30s to have at least one grandfather who fought in the war. My paternal grandfather fought in Guinea Bissau for a couple of years and sometimes tells me stories that would give anyone PTSD nowadays, such as seeing his friends getting eaten by crocodiles after a native soldier blew a raft with a bazooka, throwing almost a dozen guys in a river during some sort of operation. Of course he hated the war and the military, and that made him a communist sympathiser which later was involved with the Portuguese Communist Party, who he votes for in every election until today.

You forget the part where the conflict started, the part where the separatist terrorists went from town to town slaughtering everyone who was in favor of Portugal, black or white. Portugal never had any difficulties with terrorists until the USA, USSR and CHINA arrived with support. Not forgetting also that after the USA and the USSR helped Angola to free itself from the "portuguese oppressors", then they decided to go against each other by manipulating Angolan tribes to fight each other, resulting in the longest civil war in the history of Africa and the death of more of half a million black Portuguese, all of that because of money. Oh and if you wana try to make this a race conflict, 4x more black people fought for Portugal than for terrorists.
(more than a million gypsy Portuguese!)

People in Angola, Guinea, Mozambique , S, Tomé, Cape Vert, lived much better in the times of the Portuguese Empire than now. Economy was better, infrastructures, public services, cities and towns were very cleaned, there was security. Then, countries " from the singging tomorrows " as Soviet Union and Cuba, helped the "black brothers " to liberate there nations from the fascists , imperialists , slavists, capitalists, misogynistic and nazis ( as they used to call the portuguese ). Now, those independent countries are in a complete misery, rulled by despotic dictators with incredible fortunes. Meanwhile, Soviet Union has disapeared and Cuba is what it is...
we can always count on Cuba to help black brothers kkkkkkk wanna know what happened to Cuba and Portuguese territories? Look at the USA right now. Blackie be zombified

my friends gave me the GREATEST birthday surprise
This one has no countdown in it, so I'm just going by when I had it marked in my calendar. I really wish that something came out of the sponsor birthday presents thing, I thought it was really funny. I think the Until Graduation series has one of the most sincere hearts to a series on the internet. Anthpo can be a really thoughtful guy, and this is one of the first times in the process that we can really see it on display. Happy belated birthday Anthpo.
Favorite Moment: The Applebees Birthday Song.
My Day:
Today I packed and drove north with my family for a vacation. We're in an airbnb on a lake and it's beautiful.
I got to drive up with my brother, who is like my best friend. Being with him is always fun.
We stopped at a retro game store on the way up here, and I picked up a copy of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for the 2600. It was pretty cheap (shocker)
Of course, they can't all be highs. Tonight I played an actually really infuriating game of trivial pursuit. It was difficult.
656 Days Until Graduation

Remember Me
Chapter 2
Summary: While cleaning up the timelines that he broke, Loki meets and inevitably loses the one person that’s understood him in life. But he’s not losing you without a fight.
A/N: Another chapter within a week?? More likely than you think! Beta'd by the ever beautiful @edgyvege. Go show her some love!
Warnings: None
Word Count: 2303
Happy Reading!
Loki’s lying in his bed, clutching the book you had loaned him close to his chest.
He finished the book the first night of having it, and he regrets not pacing himself because he still has six days before he can see you again and isn’t sure how to keep himself sane until then. He doesn’t have much to his name anymore, having missed eleven years of his life and his home having been destroyed. So it’s not like he can turn to his favorite books or activities.
The Avengers had reluctantly agreed, mostly out of guilt because of Thor’s previous loss, to let Loki stay in the compound under the condition that he did not leave, did not use his magic unsupervised, and did not cause chaos. It had been an incredibly difficult adjustment, especially on his part, but he was willing to do whatever it took to see you again. So he did not complain even once.
When Loki had returned from timeline 656, the timeline in which he first met you, he was broken but determined. He was on a mission and refused to get distracted until his job was done. He had to find you again. He didn’t know what he was going to do if he didn’t.
So when Mobius agreed to bring Loki to this point of the timeline, he had given Loki the information to be able to find you.
You were his insurance, a way to make sure Loki stayed in his place.
So after two weeks of near perfect behavior and constant sulking from the trickster, Steve and Tony agreed that Loki could leave the compound, though only under Thor’s supervision.
When he first saw you again in that tiny bookstore, he felt like he had been hit in the chest by Thor’s hammer. He thought he was prepared to see you again. Your bright eyes and soft lips were all he could think about the past several months. But apparently, he wasn’t prepared in the slightest.
But you being you, you gave him a sweet smile and kindly helped him find the book you had told him about when the two of you had first met back in timeline 656. Because no matter the timeline, you were always one to help others.
And then you did something he wasn’t expecting. The possibility wasn’t even on his radar. You gave him your own copy to read, telling him it was so he had to come back and see you. He felt his chest constrict in that moment, yet at the same time a spark of hope exploded inside of him. It was something that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
Then when you asked him for his name, his heart broke again.
He had forgotten to even give you his name, because he had already known yours. Your name, your scent, your favorite laugh, your body.
He knew it all.
Yet you knew nothing about him. And after telling you his name, he was afraid you’d remember what he’d done to your city all those years ago. That you’d be afraid of him and reject him, just like most everyone else in his life. He wouldn’t blame you. He believed himself a monster, just like everyone else did.
But he kept himself from spiraling into his dark thoughts with the sole knowledge that the version of you in timeline 656 wasn’t scared of him. Not even before he explained to you what had really happened.
No, you had accepted him, helped him, and eventually loved him.
He could only hope that this version of you could do the same.
***
The day you met Loki, you were a bit shell shocked.
He left almost immediately after telling you his name, and you watched as he met up with a much larger blonde man before walking away. It took your brain one too many seconds to realize the blonde was Thor, making Loki the actual Loki. The Loki that reigned chaos and destruction to your beloved city all those years ago.
A few pieces of information struck you throughout the day, startling you each time:
Number one; you had actually hit on a literal god. The God of Mischief, no less.
Number two; he actually flirted back! What the fuck?
Number three; he never asked for your name.
And number four; you weren’t scared of him. More than that, you weren’t even angry with him.
You couldn’t for the life of you figure out why. Why he didn’t intimidate you. Why you felt as if you understood him. Or why you felt like you knew him, more intimately than just having heard of him. You had only spoken to the man once, for crying out loud.
The week passes by incredibly slowly, and every time you think about your interaction or of seeing Loki again, butterflies come to life in your belly and a smile slowly comes across your face.
But today is finally the day.
It’s a quarter past eleven when the door to the shop opens, the small wind chime signaling someone had entered. You look up from your current read and see Loki taking a few short steps to the counter. He’s dressed to the nines again, wearing a dark grey suit with minimal green accents.
He looks positively delicious, and you curse yourself for letting that thought slip. You slide your bookmark into your novel before setting it on a small shelf behind you.
“Hey! You came back!” You say, your voice a few pitches higher than usual. You really weren’t expecting him to actually return the book himself. In fact, you weren’t sure what you expected at all.
He nods, “Of course, darling. I wanted to see you again,” his voice is deep and his eyes are trained on yours, “And discuss the book, obviously,” He lifts the loved copy in his hand, held between his nimble fingers.
Warmth blooms in your chest and you smile shyly. Your eyes flicker to the window where you saw Thor waiting last week.
“Where’s your chaperone?”
Loki raises a brow, glancing to the window next to him.
“I saw Thor meet you when you left last week.”
Realization dawns on Loki’s face, “Ah, yes. I must be accompanied by my brother at all times outside of the Avengers Compound. It is a term of my arrangement.”
“Arrangement?” You ask, cocking your head slightly.
For a moment, Loki falters. He’s said too much, explaining his situation could cause more questions to arise, and he did not need that right now. Because how in the nine realms would he answer them?
So instead of answering, he sets the book on the counter in between the two of you and smiles, “Nothing for you to concern yourself, dear. I would much rather talk about the blatant misinformation contained in this book.”
His tone is light and playful, so you laugh and pull the book closer to you, “Misinformation? You mean to tell me that you didn’t give birth to a horse?”
Loki rolls his eyes, “Gods, no! I did no such thing. Nor am I the father of Fenrir, Jormungandr, or Hela.” He makes a disgusted face.
“That’s a shame,” You fake pout, “You just ruined my favorite book for me.”
He scoffs, “Darling, I am the living, breathing version of the character in your book. How could a novel be more interesting than the real deal?”
You look at him, a mischievous glint in your eye, and Loki feels his heart jump in his throat. He’s seen that look before. The way your nose crinkles just slightly, causing your eyebrows to scrunch, barely noticeable. There’s a sparkle in your eye, one that tells Loki every time that you’re up to no good.
It was one of the many reasons he fell so hard for you.
“You’re very handsome, I’ll give you that. But I just think Book Loki has more layers. Ya know?”
Normally, if you had made a comment like that, Loki would have pinned you against a wall and put you in your place.
But that was another time. One that Loki desperately hoped would come to him once more.
“Well, I think that if you come to know me better, you shall see I am much more… Complex than you humans have made me out to be.” His voice has lowered a few tones, sweet and smooth like honey.
He’s closer now, leaning over with his forearms on the counter, and you feel a warmth spread across your belly. You curse yourself and discreetly press your thighs together.
But unbeknownst to you, Loki knew every single one of your mannerisms, quirks, and habits. And by default, he saw the little movement you made, and had to use his glamour to hide the way his body reacted.
Conversation flowed from there, banter flying back and forth, your quick wit almost matching his.
It somehow felt normal to you. Comfortable. It was bizarre and pleasant at the same time.
But for Loki, it was just a painful reminder of what he lost so many months ago.
Before he knew it, there was a single knock against the front window, signaling that his time was up. The both of you glanced up to see Thor, dressed in jeans and a casual cotton jacket, peeking inside.
Loki sighs, “While I wish I could stay longer and chat, I fear I must take my leave.” He stands from the chair you had pulled up next to you and straightens his jacket.
Your heart drops slightly, not wanting him to leave, and you stand with him.
“Well, how about I give you another book to read?”
“I was already planning on coming back,” He smirks, tilting slightly downward, “But I shan’t turn down a chance to read a book.”
“Good, because I love this one too.” You tell him, grabbing the book from your stash. You rip a piece of receipt paper from the small printer and quickly scribble on it, then tuck it into the front cover.
“And my name is Y/N, by the way. I didn’t get a chance to tell you last week.”
Loki smiles and takes the book from you, walking towards the door.
“Well, Y/N, it has been a pleasure. I shall see you again next week.”
***
“Brother, I see you have another book.” Thor says as he moves to walk alongside Loki, who was already reading the book summary.
Loki only makes a hum of acknowledgment, but doesn’t say anything.
They walk in silence towards the secluded alley where Loki can transport them back to the compound without curious eyes.
The silence is comfortable, yet eerie. Thor is still recovering from the shock of having Loki back, though it wasn’t the same Loki he lost on that forsaken ship.
And Loki… He’s just trying to wrap his head around everything that has happened. Everything he missed because he jumped from 2012 to 2021. He didn’t get to say goodbye to Frigga. He didn’t get to have a last look at Asgard. And now the one woman Loki is sure he cannot live without, doesn’t remember him.
They get back to the compound without incident, and Loki heads back to his room like he always does, choosing to interact with the Avengers as little as possible, lest there be a fight.
He tilts his head up slightly, eyes screwed shut and fingers pinching the bridge of his nose, “Friday, is it? Where is the spider child?”
“Peter is in the penthouse. Would you like me to relay a message to him?”
Loki bites his lip. Is he really going to do this?
Yes, he supposes he is.
“Can you ask him to come to my quarters?”
“Of course.”
Loki paces, waiting for Peter. After several minutes, there’s a tentative knock at the door.
“Come in.”
It opens slowly, revealing a confused Peter.
“Hey, Friday said you asked for me?”
“Yes.” Loki nods, then hands the boy a small piece of paper.
The same paper you put into the book earlier in the day.
Peter, now fully in the room, takes the paper and shoots a curious glance at Loki, before reading.

I don’t know if you have a cell phone, or even know what one is.
But if you do, feel free to text or call me :)

~
“If you tell anyone about this, I shall have your head.” Loki hisses, but there’s no heat behind it. Peter is one of the few humans Loki cares about dearly. The little shit had somehow managed to weasel his way into Loki’s notoriously cold heart within the first week.
And Peter knew this.
“Yeah, yeah,” He smirks, “Why are you showing it to me in the first place?”
“While I know what a cell phone is, I am unsure about how to acquire one. That is where you come in.”
Peter’s eyes light up, “Oh, this is going to be so much fun!”
Loki crosses his arms, fearing he may come to regret this.
***
“What do you want?”
“It’s been a while. Nice hearing your voice.”
“The feeling isn’t mutual.”
“Ouch.”
“Answer my question.”
“I want you to join us, of course. Thought that was clear by now.”
“Fuck off.”
“Well, figured I’d try... Anyways, I received word that Loki is back on Earth.”
“Not sure why you think I care, or how this concerns me.”
“I would like for you to bring him in.”
“I don’t work for you. Use your own goons.”
“He’s protected by Thor, and the Avengers by default. But you could easily-”
“Like I said. I don’t work for you. Why don’t you try intimidating one of your other experiments?”
“Star-”
“That’s not my name. Goodbye.”

reading update 5/8/2022
Very close to hitting my goal :) Have been in a bit of a slump but I'm hoping to pick up the pace.
Currently Reading:
The Way Spring Arrives And Other Stories edited by Yu Chen
The Tyrant Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson
Dracula by Bram Stoker
The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
The Memory Librarian and Other Stories of Dirty Computer by Janelle Monae
I know it looks like a lot, but I can explain. Two short story compilations, which I try to read slowly so that I can enjoy each story. Tyrant is 656 pages long; I would be surprised if I got it finished before it has to go back to the library. I will probably just buy a copy before I have to give it back to the library. Dracula I'm reading via the newsletter everyone and their mother is signed up for now, but I figured it was a good idea to mark it on GR so that I wouldn't forget to log it. And The Atlas Six was an impulse pick up at the library. My threshold to DNF it is very low, because hyped YA fantasy has failed me too many times already.
This is the second time I have checked these out. We'll see if I actually read them!
Ten Book Shortlst:
The Councillor by E. J. Beaton
The First Sister by Linden A. Lewis
The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun
Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall
A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell
These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
Small Gods by Terry Pratchett
Still need to add a book to this list to bring it back to ten, but I'm waiting until I move because right now I have so many library books, etc.
Reviews:
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saentz
5/5. This was a recommendation from a friend, which I'm glad I accepted because I really enjoyed this book! It's heavily character-driven and really engaging. Very few coming out stories appeal to me these days, but this one stole my heart. My only complaint is that the parents sitting Ari down at the end of the book to tell him he was in love with Dante felt...highly forced. In general that's a trope I dislike.
The Blue Castle by L. M. Montgomery
5/5. An annual read and one of my favorite books ever. I love Valancy with my whole heart, and her jounrey from downtrodden wallflower to a sparkling, witty adventress is wonderful to read every time. Sometimes I open this one up just to read Barney's confession at the end. One of the few romances I have read with a believable third act break up. Recommended to everyone.
The Monster Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson
4/5. Oof. This is a very good book that is losing one star for having a problem I think a lot of second books have: you know it's going to end badly, somehow, and that makes the protagonist's constant suffering so much worse, because you have no hope it'll ever be relieved. The worldbuilding in this book is incredibly strong, and the plot is still engaging, but it's such a trauma conga that it took me two months to read. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to Baru in book 3 (and book 4, if we ever get book 4).
Learned Reactions by Jayce Ellis
4/5. This was an impulse buy that I kind of regret? It's a romance between two childhood friends who are now in their 30s and successful, but have always had some underlying tension because they're mutually pining to each other. Add a dollop of fake dating and a sudden adoption and you've got this book. I really enjoyed the two leads, and I felt like their connection was great. I also enjoyed reading a book where characters communicate in an adult way. However, I felt like the middle of the book sagged and the conflict felt kind of contrived--these guys are grown adults, why is it taking them so long to get their shit together--and it also has a trope I hate, "every side character is there to tell the leads to hook up" syndrome. Including the adopted kids!
I'm giving this 4 stars because I think my complaints are all pretty subjective and another reader might really enjoy all the stuff that bogged the book down for me. The actual writing is great.
Four Aunties and a Wedding
2/5. Man, these 2022 releases are disappointing. I really enjoyed Dial A for Aunties, and was looking forward to the sequel. But this fell flat for me. It's a retread of the first book but this time there's no internal conflict for any of the characters to overcome. Nathan is a nonpresence, Meddy doesn't change at all and hasn't retained any of her character development from book 1, and the aunties feel like caricatures. There are so many opportunities in this book that go missed. Without any emotional scaffolding to hang them on, the constant hijinks of this book feel forced and cringey. I skimmed the last third or so because I just wanted to know if the ending would be good. It wasn't.

Purple Frost (2/2)
Author: @wordsfromthesol Pairing: Batsis!Reader Warnings: Language, maybe? But I don't even think that's in there. Word Count: 656 Requested: @duckieecorner
Part One
The commentary and questions seemed never ending, even as you attempted to help your bandmates load the van. Your family didn't even try to mask their astonishment.
"But it's just…so out of character!" Tim whined as his rational mind tried to make sense of what he just witnessed. You shrugged at the comment, so he continued. "Not that it was bad. You did…you all did fantastic! How did you even get into this type of music?" The gears were still turning in his mind.
"I dunno, it lets me express myself. I can't really explain it." You turned towards your bandmates, offering them an exit. "We're all packed up. I'll see you guys Saturday for practice." Thankfully, they took the hint and piled into the van.
"You're so bubbly and that was so…loud." Dick's observation hung in the air, until you finally responded.
"Look. Charming playboy over here," your hand flung towards Bruce, "doesn't exactly scream brooding dark knight. Does it?"
"Well…if the world actually knew him…" Jason mumbled out, but you chose to ignore his commentary.
Cass came up behind you, throwing an arm around your shoulder. "Well sis, I enjoyed it. You did fantastic, and the reaction video I got is going to be priceless."
You chuckled, "Well you've heard my band before Cass. Also, I'm going to need a copy of that." You pressed a kiss to her cheek, ignoring the rest of your family swapping confused glances.
**
You had all piled in the car, when Damian finally spoke up. "Cain, you knew of her nightly exploits?" You were just surprised his question had nothing to do with the style of music.
"I may have followed her one night. I was on patrol and saw her get in a van. Was I supposed to not follow her?" Cass tried to reason with younger brother.
"Why was I not informed?" Damian retorted, the anger rising in his voice. You placed your hand on Cass's knee, the subtle gesture letting her know you would endure the questioning.
"I was nervous. That you wouldn't let me continue."
"Because of the type of music? Do not utter nonsense, sister."
"No. Because it requires me to be out late at night in one of the most dangerous cities in the world."
"Exactly! What if something happened?!" Damian's face flushed as he sunk further into his seat, not wishing to discuss the matter further.
"Okay. You're right." You finally relented, admitting defeat.
"Whoever is on patrol can swing by the venue once Y/N is done and make sure she gets home." Bruce relayed the order, which was clearly not up for debate. The rest of the car ride was awkwardly silent, just as you imagined it would be.
Once you got home, you immediately raced up to your room, not wishing to undergo further scrutiny. You were sitting on your bed drawing inspiration from the entire situation and writing new lyrics when you heard a faint knock on the door. The door creaked open, not waiting on your response, and Jason stumbled in.
"Y/N/N." His voice almost hesitant as he came and sat on the bed next to you. "I just wanted to…well let you know I'm proud of you and I'm glad you found something to be passionate about."
A faint smile adorned your features, "Thanks Jay."
"Ohh are you writing new songs now?" The somber tone quickly vanished and was replaced by his natural puerile state.
"Maybe…" The paper flew up to your chest in an effort to protect its contents.
"Please, like that will help." Jason scoffed as he easily took the paper from you and scanned over the words. "These are good! We should get more opinions." A devilish grin plastered across his face.
"Jason Peter Todd, don't you dare." Your words were too little too late, as Jason had already raced from the room, in search of someone to share your work with.

**If the lyrics are marked as Member & All, it simply goes to all. Everyone is singing, but one person’s voice is just a little bit more noticeable than the others. **
*When two singers sang together, I added it twice for each - but for the percentage and Number of words overall I took it out for the final count. So It goes towards the personal members records and not the overall for the song.**

Indaba, My Children- Review
Indaba, My Children, is a book that compels you to reimagine Africa ,it’s history and the origins of the black man. No- he is not the missing link between ape and humanity ,as previously suggested by “respectable” men of science. Throughout the book, the author emphasizes that little is known about the Black man’s culture ,customs, traditions and religion. This can be attributed to all the strict laws which govern the accessibility , dissemination and acquisition of knowledge in Africa. Very few wise men and women are chosen as “Custodians of tribal history”. These individuals are then tasked with the grave responsibility of being guardians and repositories of all of Africa’s secrets and wonderful mysteries.
Custodians of Tribal History are sown to secrecy through intense rituals and blood oaths. They are never to reveal some of the sacred wisdom which has now been passed down to them- to the average Tom, Dick and Sipho. “Vey little knowledge is passed on to common people and nothing is ever disclosed to strangers” (p.654). The author believes that this impeccable shroud of secrecy surrounding Indigenous African Knowledge is a major contributing factor to inequality and to the racism that has caused much havoc and heartache in the past. He believes that if there were a better understanding between black and white, much bloodshed could’ve been avoided. (He uses Dingana and the death of Piet Retief to illustrate this point). Credo Mutwa, therefore implores the white man to exterminate his ignorance and arrogance and for once learn and understand the black man for what he truly is- How he thinks , the beliefs and philosophies that guide his thinking, his actions and much more. “The African can only be understood in terms of the strange workings of his own mind and those who do not appreciate this may as well refrain from studying the African” (p.655).
Indaba, My Children is thus an attempt to paint a portrait of Africa that the world has never seen before. To demystify the notion that the black man of Africa is a Kaffir- (“ A man without a soul , an unbeliever and a person who can never see the paradise of Allah” - Arab definition as detailed in p.656 ) who has contributed nothing to the advancement and development of humanity at large. This is achieved by taking the reader on a captivating and thrilling adventure through the annals of time. From the very beginning of time when a great nothingness engulfed the earth. To the very first goddess , Ninavanhu-Ma who created the very stars, mountains and oceans and then went on to give birth the human race. We get a glimpse of tribal life in precolonial Africa - the good the great and the not so good.
Women play a very significant role in this great piece of literature. Throughout the story we have many great heroines and rounded female characters. Women can be seen in positions of leadership ,as chieftains and emperors. They are presented as wise , strong and authoritative. There is a synergy and cooperative spirit that governs the men and women. Force and violence against the female body are extremely frowned upon and even punishable by death. Women can therefore practice autonomy over their own bodies and even choose to turn down suitors and marriage proposals.
Tribal law governs the people and absolutely no one is above it. For the preservation of all the laws, customs and traditions of the tribes- everyone must obey all the laws that have been clearly set out. The laws are very strict and they pertain to matters such as- Behavior, rituals , adultery, sex before marriage, theft , murder , abortion ,rape and overall conduct. There are about one hundred such laws and they often contradict those which have been superimposed on Africans by foreigners. When a law is broken a suitable punishment is carried out by the “Tribal avengers”. The punishments are very crude and unforgiving, they are the grimmest part of life pre-colonial life. According to Tribal Law, anyone under 25 years of age is still considered a child and is strictly forbidden to marry or to partake in any form of sexual activities. Failure to adhere to this law is punishable by death.
Polygamy is shown as a normal part of life. Most men take more than two wife's and chiefs really have no limit. The author states that : “ A fallacy dear to many people is that polygamy is practiced as a sign of wealth and prestige” (p. xviii). He cautions that that is very far from the truth. According to the coveted high Tribal Law “ A man must have no relations with his wife during her periods of menstruation or during the entire period while she breastfeeds a baby... Opposition to polygamy encourages extensive immorality and destruction of Bantu family life and traditions. p.633” . It is believed that the males semen poisons the baby's milk. Thus polygamy is crucial in these situations, it ensures that these sacred laws will not be broken. It is also worthy to note that polygamy is not only practiced by males. Yes, a female who goes up the ranks and becomes chieftainess , gets a whopping three husbands all to herself! To top it off , she has to ask for their hand in marriage!
Hair plays a very important symbolism. The “sicolo” hairstyle is worn by married women, usually of royal blood. Different tribes can be identified by their unique hairstyles. “The Strange Ones” are said to have “hair that looks as yellow as corn” and they are identified by their strangely silky , long and shiny hair. The Arabs or “The Feared Ones” are identified as having “fuzzy hair and long beards”.
Slavery , something that was almost alien to Africans , becomes very rampant shortly after the arrival of the first ship. Life as we know it takes a horrid and bitter turn. Suddenly , human beings are sold and traded off like cattle. Fear and terror reign supreme and it seems that the very gods have turned their backs on the black man and woman of Africa. Men and women are made to fight and slaughter each other as a very eccentric and sadistic means of entertainment for the Strange Ones. Human beings are farmed and breed like pigs, to ensure an overflow of good quality slaves. At times, just for fun or experimentation. This dark period in the history of Africa, make the harsh punishments under Tribal Law seem very merciful and humane. The Strange Ones had traditions that were very macabre and blood-chilling. For instance, when their emperors died, he was buried along with his living wife and half of his slaves! There is also mention of traitor tribes, who betrayed the black race by banding together with the Strange Ones as well as the slave-raiding Arabi and sold off millions of African men and women to save their own backs. And also for gaining wealth and favors from the straight-haired foreigners.
Christianity is first introduced by the arrival of the “Potugeesa” in page 521. It is a completely foreign and alien concept and only symbolized by the statuette carried by the foreigners. “ ...ten more of the aliens emerged from the forest led by the one wearing a dark-brown robe reaching to his ankles. He was carrying a staff on the top of which was a bronze statuette of a man of some race, nailed to a cross of wood by his hands and feet ”. Africans lived a life in harmony with nature and were guided by their gods , and various traditions and customs. They could discern right from wrong and governed themselves accordingly.
Vusamazulu Mutwa breaks his sacral oath of silence as a high witchdoctor and chosen custodian as a last and desperate attempt to save the dying knowledge and customs of his people. “Why are we expected to abandon our way of life- our culture and traditions- and suddenly adopt others which are extremely strange to us? p.691 ” . In fear of Africa being turned into “a soul-less carbon copy” of her colonizers, Mutwa bears it all. “Oh! my indolent and gullible Africa- the superior aliens glibly talk of bringing “the light of civilization” to your shores. And yet the only civilization they can bring is one infected with physical, moral and spiritual decay p.691”. Mutwa, believes that by bringing forth Africa's not-yet- forgotten past , we can weave a better understanding and corporation between Black and White, and dispel blatant mistruths and strongly held beliefs such as the one published in the Sunday Times “...The White man is superior to the Black, because apart from a few crude drawings in crude caves, nothing cultural, scientific and social has ever been achieved by a black...” (E. Morris, Johannesburg, on August, 1962 ).
Indaba My Children is truly a work of genius. Its written in a compelling and enchanting style that is on a league of it’s own. The reader is thoroughly entertained and goes through a whirlwind of emotions ranging from amazement , pity , fear and anger to name a few. “A person who is not familiar to Africa and its people might find it difficult to understand this story, let alone read between the lines p.529” It does not follow the “classic”, western three-act structure of story-telling and the perspective of the story-teller jumps back and forth between the main characters, the author and even animals! Parts of the story are told from the point of view of the animals. This draws the reader in the mind of these beasts and it is a powerful way of showing that animals have a mind and consciousness of their own. It also signifies the sacred relationship between the pre-colonial African and the animals in his environment. This story is said to be “...a strange mixture of historical fact and legendary fantasy, a strange mixture of truth and nonsense”. This story is not intended only as a means of entertainment, but is also educational in that it is said to embody tribal history and law. It is written in a way that it can be enjoyed by both old and young.

Hitoshi Shinso x F!Reader
Warning ~ Swearing
Word Count ~ 656
Genre ~ SFW Fluff
Posted 16/07/20
(Y/N) and Hitoshi were sprawled out on the sofa one at each end leg entwined under the blanket covering them while they played pokemon Sword and Shield on their Nintendo switches.
"Ha! I found another Eevee!" (Y/N) shouted out,
"What no! Fuck!" Hitoshi shouted the pair of them were battling it out to see who can get all the Eevee evolutions first. Hitoshi was struggling to find the Eevvee he needed to complete his group. Hitoshi has had pokemon Sword about a month and finally convinced his girlfriend to buy a switch light and to get shield a few days ago so rainy days like today they can curl up on the sofa together with snacks.
Hitoshi had already got Sylveon, Vaporeon, Flareon and Espeon before they started this Eeveelution battle. (Y/N) had already managed to catch five Eevee so only three more Eevee.
"Goddamn it, fucking Electrike stop chasing me!" (Y/N)'s character was running around the screen, avoiding the little electric pokemon that would not stop chasing her through the long grass.
"I'm going to Grass gym battle I am already OP and using a fire pokemon in a grass gym will be far too easy to defeat this gym." She ran her character down the road bumping into the NCP called Hop, who is arrogant, cocky pain in the neck that talks too much and think he is so great. "Ergh this twat again."
"Hop?' Hitoshi asked, (Y/N), hummed in respond spamming A to try and skip through the conversation where he most likely saying this is where his legend begins.
"Hitoshi? Didn't your biggest rival always pick the pokemon that didn't have a weakness to yours, like Hop choose Grookey when I choose Scorbunny, why would you choose the grass pokemon when your best friend and rival chooses a fire pokemon?!" She ranted away "And where did all the fucking camp stuff your mum gave you go! Like the bag is so small, and key items pocket? What is my bag? A TARDIS*?"
Hitoshi looked at his girlfriend with a gentle, loving smile, her eye sparkling as she played the game, she was so cute the way her nose scrunched up when she concentrated while doing the gym battle. "Do you want a drink baby girl?"
"Please sugar" (Y/N) smiled at him before turning back to her game. Throwing the blanket off him, he stood up heading out of the room, he grabbed them both a drink, he returned to see she had a grin on her face "I defeat the Gym! That was so easy!"
"Well done baby girl" He kissed her forehead, handing her the drink before sitting back down and picking up his switch again.
"Oh my god! Finally, my Eevee is evolving! Please be Umbreon. Don't you dare disappoint me, you will be disowned if you do! Yes! Umbreon! Now I need Glaceon and Leafeon, and I have all 8 Eeveelution!"
"No, come on! ergh I'm going to lose! You had a head start too!" (Y/N) pouted
"Yes! I found another Eevee!" Hitoshi started doing a little happy dance while laughing, clearly not paying attention to his girlfriend pouting. "One more! There's one!" The pouty look quickly changed to one annoyance.
"Yes, I caught it! Now time to evolve you! I have the stones to do it as well. There is Glaceon aaaaaaand one Leafeon!" Hitoshi dragged out as he watched his Eevee evolve, doing a little happy dance.
"You wanker!" his head flew up just in time, too see a pillow flying in his direction, hitting him squarely in the face, it quickly turned into a pillow fight.
They hadn't heard the front door open, and the calls of Hizashi and Shouta to there adopted son and his girlfriend with little Eri behind them as they headed toward the sitting room to find them in a full-on pillow fight. They just smiled and walked away, leaving the couple to their game.

Chest Pains
Warnings: talks of anxiety and an anxiety attack Length: 656 Authors Note: this gave me flashbacks to my first semester of college before i dropped out YIKES. but for those in school and get anxiety from it: enjoy a calming spencer!
I sat on the couch with my legs crossed and laptop on the coffee table. I adjusted my blanket around my shoulders to keep it draped around me. I grabbed a tissue off the coffee table and wiped the tears that went down my cheeks. Starting a new year at University was taking a toll on me; mentally I wasn’t prepared at all. My frustration made it hard for me to concentrate and I had given up on reading.
I had been rereading the same paragraph for the past half an hour and it felt like I was reading in a completely different language. No matter how many times I reread it; slower or faster even breaking down the sentence word by word. I couldn’t comprehend it.
I heard the front door being unlocked and I knew Spencer was home. I aggressively wiped my eyes to void the evidence of tears in my eyes and put my glasses back on. I grabbed my laptop from the couch and set it on my lap to make it look like I’ve been focusing on my work.
Spencer walked through the door with two coffees in his hand and he greeted me with a bright smile. He walked towards the couch and placed a kiss on my forehead asking me how it was going. I tried to speak but the familiar feeling of barbed wire around my throat with tears threatening to come from my eyes started happening. I knew if I tried to speak I would give away from frustration.
Spencer didn’t need to know what was happening; I felt stupid when this happened. I knew he’d be able to read my homework within 5 minutes and know the answers. To avoid feeling like an idiot I nodded with a small smile and grabbed the coffee from his hand taking a sip.
“You sure it’s going well, love?” He asked sitting down next to me.
I felt his hand rest on my back and rubbed small circles into it as I stared at my laptop. I couldn’t trick Spencer, he was a profiler. I shook my head as the tears started rolling down my face again. He grabbed the laptop from my lap and moved it to the coffee table, closing it up. He adjusted his position on the couch and grabbed my arm to pull me close. I sat between his legs and laid my head against his shoulder. He held me close and kissed the side of my head.
“I can’t do it Spence, I kept reading and rereading the same sentence and I can’t understand it,” I cried.
I started to breathe faster from anxiety. The same familiar feeling in my chest started to come. It’s the same feeling when you have a dream that you’re falling but never hit the ground. I brought my hands up to my face to hide the embarrassment. My thoughts kept going faster and faster thinking about every bad scenario that could happen.
“I need you to take deep breaths, okay?” He spoke softly. He demonstrated how he wanted me to breathe and I copied.
“You’re going to get through this because I’m going to help you. You don’t have to go through this alone. Let’s take a small break and enjoy our coffee. When you think you’re ready to get started again how about I read to you while you take notes and if you have any questions just ask me.” Spencer whispered into my ear.
My thoughts started to slow down as I felt Spencer's chest falling up and down, it was oddly calming. My breathing started to become more even, I wiped my tears with the sleeve of my hoodie and nodded.
Spencer grabbed my hand and kissed it, “You can do this I believe in you.”
I relaxed into his arms more and sighed, “I love you, Spence.”
“I love you too, sweetheart.” He whispered

#063 | Bouquet
Sonny Carisi/Klaus Hargreeves. Sonny comes back.
Word Count: 656
The funeral comes and goes. Klaus watches Sonny cry as the two of them transport and set up the beautiful bouquets to honor the memory of the one Sonny lost, who Klaus comes to kind of know from the way Sonny’s face turns dreamy and wanting when he talks about Mike. There are photos of him in the bar where the wake is being held, photos that display a strong jaw and a crisp police cap and Klaus thinks he looks rather familiar. It’s entirely possible that Klaus has seen his ghost. He sees so many, it’s hard to keep track. He does resolve, however, to keep an eye out for the dead sergeant killed on the job in defense of a battered woman who makes Klaus think of Vanya and her twitchy fingers whenever someone mentioned Reginald before the fucked up Umbrella Academy went their separate ways once again.
Klaus expects to stop seeing Sonny, then. The funeral is over, their business contract fulfilled, so why should he ever see Dominick “call me Sonny” Carisi again? Most don’t make a habit of staying with Klaus longer than they have to.
But he does get to see Sonny again, a few days later, when Sonny spends an inordinately long time staring at the premade bouquets and touching the flower petals in such gentle hands, the way Klaus imagines Sonny would have held Mike when he was alive. He’s a caring and empathetic man, even if the world has tried to beat him into submission the way it did Ben’s soft smile after too long living under the same roof as Reginald.
“Hi,” Klaus says, knowing it’s a stupid thing to say but doing so anyways because he’s never known how to get his point across without shoving his foot in his mouth.
“My friend is having a baby.”
Klaus nods. Sonny probably wants a bouquet for her. He produces his thick binder from beneath the counter and starts flipping to sheets and pulling them out, even if it’ll be a pain to put them back later. Why he’s doing it, he doesn’t know. Maybe he just wants Sonny to be impressed by him.
He shows Sonny a few carefully laminated sheets, displaying beautiful flowers as well as their names and meanings. The perfect welcome to the world bouquet for a baby, with the colors all coordinated for beauty to boot. Klaus doesn’t typically put much thought into things matching, but when it comes to his flowers, it’s different. Other people’s opinions matter when they’re paying him to make something they like.
“Perfect. How much would it cost?”
The price is right on the tip of Klaus’ tongue. He may not be as good with numbers as Five, but he can do basic addition to his standard bouquet price. All he has to do is say it. But instead of pushing his voice out in a way that will obviously be way too loud because he doesn’t know his own volume, Klaus smiles and waves his hand dismissively. He jots it down on his order sheet so he doesn’t forget, and writes that he should have it ready in a couple hours, before handing the customer copy to Sonny.
“Klaus…”
There’s that look again, the one Sonny gets when he talks about Mike, and Klaus feels something warm race through his stomach. He hasn’t been the object of affection since Dave. Daisy is a sweetheart and makes him feel loved, but it isn’t the same. It can’t compare to the way it feels to be wanted by someone, to be desired. He misses it so much.
Next thing he knows, Sonny grabs the pen off the counter and scribbles his phone number on Klaus’ copy of the order. It’s messy, hastily scrawled on the corner, but accompanied by a heart.
“I’ll be back in a bit for the flowers,” Sonny says, and leaves with a charming smile.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon - The Fennekin Family
653: Fennekin
...So if it’s not the Grass starter that is my favorite, which one is it this time then? It's actually the Fire starter that's my favorite! Starting with Fennekin here, which is another one of those Pokemon I just fell in love with instantly. It was cool to get a fennec fox! Big head to body ratio, with even bigger ears and everything. A warm and fluffy fire type! I certainly won't say no to any of that.
I'm also fairly glad of two things here. One being that, despite us already having a fire fox, Fennekin is still plenty unique in look in its own right. And two being that the “dog” entry for fire type's Zodiac theme is a fox. It’s a slight subversion to tackle another canid, which I’m more than fine with.
Fennekin though is simply too adorable, and it's one of those Pokemon I simply love to death, despite me not having a ton to say about it. All I can do is admit that my gravitating toward these Fox Pokemon is entirely just out of selfish love for foxes. Like. Gamefreak would have to mess up to Lucario kinds of bad to get me to dislike a Fox Pokemon.
Personal Score: 10/10
Hhhhhhhhh FOX GOOD.
654: Braixen
But Braixen is just as, if not more fun than Fennekin is! Like any good Starter line lately, to plants the seeds of what's to come. And to go with the DnD theme of Chesnaught, here we have Braixen slowly becoming a sorcerer! With a fun witch motif, including a cute little fur skirt and a stick it keeps in its tail, whipping it out to basically cast fire spells. What's especially cool is that the stick in the tail even looks like a witch's broomstick! All that’s really missing is some kind of proxy for a witch’s hat.
Out of all starter middle-evos, Braixen is easily my favorite not just because it manages to dodge the awkward teenager stage sort of look they mostly wind up having, but because it isn’t terribly stuck between trying to be cute but cool at the same time. It manages to capture a little bit of both as seamlessly as making an anthropomorphic fox and letting it twirl a wand around to cast fire spells. Also unlike a lot of middle-starter stages, this one’s got a cool visual motif to boot!
Also, y’all aughta know how I am about Halloween. And this can easily join the ranks of Mismagius and Murkrow as “cool witch Pokemon.”
Personal Score: 10/10
Hooray Halloween!
656: Delphox
Delphox I’m notably a bit less of a fan of. It’s still a cool fox, but Fennekin is cute and Braixen has the fun witch thing going on. Though Delphox still has plenty of room to stand on its own merits. My biggest turn-off is just the blunt introduction of the maroonish red. That and the legs being far less visible. Though that does contribute to the overall look. The personality of Delphox is just killing it, a really fun and elongated fox face with a conniving smirk. And it's high time we got a Fire Starter that was anything but Fighting type. And what better way to break that mold than by making it a type that counters Fighting?
Indeed, as previously said, Delphox goes with the DnD class theme by becoming a Sorcerer or Mage! Now wielding a much longer stick wand. And it has long, flowing fur to copy the look of a wizard's robe! Even down to the long and dangling sleeves, which it also keeps its new wand in. Not only that, but I've always thought the white fur going down its chest was also meant to look like a long, wizardy beard, too. Though that look would be fully realized had it been a continuous stripe down its chest. Again, all it’s really missing is a hat. But at least we can maybe see the giant ear-fuzz as some wiggy mage hair.
This wizard look is why I’ve always wondered what people meant when they said Delphox looks effeminate. Other than its attachment to Braixen of course. It’s not exactly Machamp but I’ve always seen more masculine traits in it than anything between that fake beard and robe-like fur.
Personal Score: 10/10
Still a 10/10, just not as much of a 10/10.
Overall:
A very good line of starters, that's pretty much fantastic from beginning to end. Also the perfect Pokemon to cover for the Eve of October!

This book here is a personal favorite. It’s rich with profound statements. David McCullough has some good books. Although this title is nearly 656 pages, it took me eighteen days to read and complete. I read it way back in September 2013.
I can take the rest of this week just posting quotes from this book (I won’t). This book was very worthwhile and enriching to me. John Adams, Abe Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, John F. Kennedy. These are all notable presidents to me. And I’ll add Ulysses S. Grant and Theordroe Roosevelt. Any other president, I’m not too fond of—at all.
John Adams was the second known president of the United States. He doesn’t get much recognition at all because he seems to me as the least liked by both his contemporaries and prominent men. He was a man of faith, so he was excluded from the secret societies that his contemporaries (the founding fathers) were members. He was a pariah, being forsaken due to his uprightness of character. He is a US president most notably and respectfully recognized for wisely avoiding war during his term in office.
Here are a couple of excerpts from this book:“Government is nothing more than the combined force of society, or the united power of the multitude, for the peace, order, safety, good and happiness of the people. . . . There is no king or queen bee distinguished from all others, by size or figure or beauty and variety of colors, in the human hive. No man has yet produced any revelation from heaven in his favor, any divine communication to govern his fellow men. Nature throws us all into the world equal and alike. . . . The preservation of liberty depends upon the intellectual and moral character of the people. As long as knowledge and virtue are diffused generally among the body of a nation, it is impossible they should be enslaved. . . . Ambition is one of the more ungovernable passions of the human heart. The love of power is insatiable and uncontrollable. . . . There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.”- Words from his journal on government and freedom, “notes for an oration at Braintree,” as he labeled the observations.
In a letter written to his wife Abigail Adams on May 12th, 1780, from Paris, he wrote the following excerpt as its closing:“I could fill Volumes with Descriptions of Temples and Palaces, Paintings, Sculptures, Tapestry, Porcelaine, &c. &c. &c. – if I could have time. But I could not do this without neglecting my duty. The science of Government is my Duty to study, more than all other Sciences: the Art of Legislation and Administration and Negotiation, ought to take Place, indeed to exclude in a manner all other Arts. I must study Politicks and War that my sons may have the liberty to study Mathematicks and Philosophy. My sons ought to study Mathematicks and Philosophy, Geography, natural History, Naval Architecture, navigation, Commerce and Agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study Painting, Poetry, Musick, Archectecture, Statuary, Tapestry and Porcelaine.Adieu.”
Original sin has messed up things—completely. And this world won’t ever be straight. It’s gone take the Lord and Savior to return and set up his kingdom on earth before this world ever gets in order. However, much understanding and insight into politics and the nature of man are disclosed entirely throughout this book.
